Fly Smarter: FAQs & Tips

Please reach us at gwmartin@mclareninstitute.org if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Generally when it comes to airplanes a student is billed based on Hobbs meter. A Hobbs meter is a clock from the moment the airplane is turned on until the time it is turned off. Our billing practices are different. 3 Amigo's Flight Club bills from the tachometer timer built into the aircraft.  Hobbs time measures actual clock time while the engine is running or the aircraft is active. Tach time measures engine revolutions per minute (RPM), running slower than a clock at low power settings and matching the clock at cruise RPM.  Saving you money over the long haul.

3 Amigo's Flight Club offers 3 separate aircraft within our fleet. Currently we offer a 1973 Cessna 150, 1966 Cessna 172H & 1979 Cessna 172N. All of our aircraft are  "steam gauge". The Cessna 172 is the worlds most popular airplane ever sold! With it brings it stable characteristics perfect for flight training. Once receiving your Private Pilots License your skills will grow to fly larger more powerful aircraft.

Yes! Both Cessna 172s are certified to fly into Instrument Metrological Conditions (IMC). The Cessna 150 is a perfect VFR time builder however not approved for flights under IFR.

Aviation Gas (Av Gas) is a higher octane gasoline that is able to be burned at higher altitudes. Therefore with all of the additives the fuel price fluctuates quite frequently. Instead of evaluating our airplane cost every time we purchase fuel or pricing them higher we do dry rates. Keeps our pricing structure straight forward and simple to understand.

McLaren Corporation is the Fixed Base Operator (FBO) at Falwell Airport (W24). They provide all services to our aircraft in a quick and expedient manner. Keeping them flying and in good condition.
